GOLD COAST FISHING REPORT

2018 Gold Cost Fishing Report #1
May 15, 2018
The boat is in and we are ready to start the 2018 season. Next Friday and Saturday we will be
fishing out of the Port of Manistee in the annual Tight Lines for Troops charity tournament.
This two day event is held each May just before Memorial weekend. Michigan veterans from
all 5 of the services combine to catch fish and enjoy camaraderie. Veterans meet for a meal
on Friday evening. Saturday morning starts off in front off at the pier heads with a short
service and then off to several hours of fishing. After the weigh in, a hardy meal is enjoyed by
all. No charge for the veterans. Over 50 boats and all of the food are donated.
As I write, we are very early in the 2018 season. However, BIG kings are already being
caught in the southern end of L. Michigan. In the Summer Challenge Tournament down in St.
Joe, a 29 pounder was weighed in on 5-12- 18. This fish is considered huge for this time of
year. This bodes well for the upcoming season. As the water warms, these fish will move up
the coast to our home port of Frankfort.
